Way Up on the Roof

Are You Looking To Change Your Current Roof? 4 Key Things To Think About

Planning to change your roof can be exciting when you want to upgrade your home. This is because you will no longer worry about damage from the elements or poor energy efficiency. Given this, you will want to do everything possible to ensure that the installation of your new roof goes smoothly. So, if this is your first time changing your roof, here are a few things you should do to make your roofing contractor's task easier.

Remove Wall Hangings and Move Your Vehicle

While changing your roof, the hammering of materials will cause vibrations on the walls, particularly on the upper floor. Hence, if there are items hanging on these sections of your house, you should remove them to ensure they don't fall off and incur damage. You should also remove your car from the parking space so your roofing contractor can easily load and unload their equipment. More so, doing this will prevent your car from getting accidental scratches.

Consider Covering Any Items in The Attic

You should expect a lot of dirt and debris when changing your roof, with most of it falling into your attic space. So, if you use this area to store your belongings, consider covering them to keep dirt and damage at bay. Also, once your project is complete, be sure to perform light vacuuming to keep the area clean.

Ensure That You Home Has Reachable Power Outlets

While working on your roofing project, your general contractor will require electricity to power their equipment. As such, if you have an exterior electrical outlet, then they can use that to power their equipment. If not, they may have to use the nearest power source, which could be in your basement or garage. You should note that when tapping power from such areas, they'll need to run the electrical cords through your windows, which can pose a tripping hazard. So, when choosing an outlet, ensure it's in an area that doesn't receive much foot traffic.

Ensure Short Grass and Trimmed Tree Limbs

If long branches are hanging near your roof, your roofing expert must trim them. If they fail to do this, the branches may fall on the roof and damage it after a severe storm. In addition, they'll protect the plants and grass close to your home by covering them with drop clothes. However, you need to keep the grass short as this makes cleaning your lawn faster once the project is complete.
