6 Signs You Need to Replace Your Vinyl Siding

Vinyl siding is a great siding material because it is built to last for a long time. However, like most materials, it does degrade over time, which is why it is important to be aware of the signs that you need to either repair some of your vinyl sidings or just replace it.

Sign #1: Mildew, Fungus & Mold

If there is mildew, fungus, or mold on the outside of your siding, you can purchase a cleaning product to remove it. You can apply the cleaning product and pressure washes your siding to get rid of the mildew, fungus, or mold. If you have mold or mildew growing underneath your vinyl siding panels, you have a more significant issue. You need to figure out how water is getting under the siding. Then, you need to kill the mold or mildew with appropriate products and fix the leaking water to stop the spread and protect your home.

Sign #2: Bubbling Panels

The shape of your panels should not change. If you notice that your panels seem to be either bubbling or warping, you will need to replace the impacted panels. Bubbling and warping can occur as a result of extreme heat. Bubbling and warping can result in gaps that expose your home to the elements and cause further damage. Panels that are bubbling or warping need to be replaced right away to prevent additional issues.

Sign #3: Quickly Fading Colors

Vinyl siding is designed to retain color for a long time. If your siding is no longer retaining its color, the waterproof coating on it is wearing off. That waterproof coating helps protect your home. If the color is fading and no longer holding paint that well, you will need to replace your siding to get the best water protection.

Sign #4: Cracked Siding

Vinyl siding is strong. However, when it is hit with the right amount of force, it can crack. If you have any cracked siding, you can just replace those siding panels. Once again, you will want to replace the cracked siding as soon as possible to keep rainwater from getting past the siding and impacting your home.

Sign #5: Dents & Chips

With your vinyl siding, you want the surface to be healthy and free of imperfections. Little dents and chips may not seem like a big deal from an aesthetics perspective. However, even small dents and chips can allow in moisture and bugs and lead to mold and infestation issues. Any damaged siding should be replaced right away.

Sign #6: Dry Rot

If the wood under the siding is rotting, it is time to replace both the wood under the siding and the siding as well. Generally, if the wood is rotting, the siding is probably not doing its job at protecting your home, which is why you will want to replace both the wood and the siding.

If you notice any of the signs above, consider contacting companies like Select Exteriors. Chips, holes, dents, cracks, and warped pieces of siding can be replaced. If you have a mold or mildew under the panels, you need some repairs. If you have dry rot or if the siding isn't retaining color, you will want to replace the siding entirely.
